What cold water swimming can teach us about money
Why do we find it hard to do the very things that help us most?
Every single time I go cold water swimming, I hesitate before I get in. Every. Single. Time.
I stand at the water’s edge and I pause. I think of all the things I would rather be doing. I tell myself that nobody would mind if I didn’t swim today.
And then I take a deep breath in and I launch myself into the water (generally not very elegantly). It feels awful, until it doesn’t.
I have never been for a swim in cold water and not felt like a superhero afterwards, capable of anything.
Facing our finances is like cold water swimming. It’s so easy to avoid doing the hard thing but being brave and taking that first step leads to the best kind of reward.
Many clients I work with hesitate before booking their first financial coaching session, but they always feel better once they’ve taken the leap.
What do you find hard to do that makes you feel amazing once you’ve jumped in?
